Sealy Posturepedic Hyland Way or Fieldbrook mattress

Hello Peter, I have been looking at 2 Sealy mattresses, one at Macy's and the other at a local store named Art Van. The names of the 2 Queen size, cushion firm mattresses are Hyland Way and Fieldbrook. Both are on sale for $999. I am 5'2 185 pounds and I have lumbar problems with my back. Which one of these would you choose and why? I've read your other comments and it seems that you recommend the signature lines for lumbar problems. However I have yet to noticed a mattress that said signature, I see reserve quite a bit though. I want to purchase something by this weekend so your help is much appreciated.  Thank you

Hi Monique. Between the two, the Fieldbrook is your better choice. The Hyland Way is a Preferred model and has a lower coil count that the Fieldbrook Reserve. That is the price the Fieldbrook should be, the other is over priced. I don't think the Signature would be necessary for you.

A mattress that deosn't get so hot

I just read a question very similar to mine here on your site.I am into my third mattress in 4 years. All of them had one form or another of memory foam and it gets so hot. Please recommend a mattress that will not get so so hot. I have to move several times during the night from heat building up under me.Your suggestions/advice appreciated.Patty Wolford

Hi Patty. Latex is the coolest of all the foams and is not temperature sensitive. The best value in latex is Sealy, not so much because it's better, but because you can easily shop it, which keeps everyone honest and the prices lower. The starting model in the Sealy SpringFree line is all you need. It's comfortable without being too soft. That will help keep you cooler too...not sinking too much into the mattress. The model names are different everywhere, and that model is called Beachside here. To shop for it, you'd ask for the level 1 plush...either as a Sealy or a Stearns & Foster. You can also find it in a Bassett Furniture Gallery with Carrington Chase label.

Sealy PurEmbrace mattresses

Hi Lynn. Latex does a great job of limiting motion transfer. In the PurEmbrace line, try the Autumn Garden plush. It should be supportive enough for a stomach sleeper, while soft enough for the hips. Make sure that you rotate your new mattress.
You should rotate your new mattress, at least, once a month for the first year. It should only be necessary a few times a year after that. If your bed is one of the thicker, softer models, it may be necessary to rotate it every couple of weeks for the first few months or so. People tend to sleep farther apart in a king size mattress. What happens is, the center where no one sleeps, stays like new while body impressions form on either side. To insure that the padding settles evenly, rotate the mattress a quarter turn. A king isn't exactly square, but it's square enough. It'll hang over about an inch on each side when turned this way.

Sealy Springfree Brighton Hill mattress

Hi Joanne. I have no reviews on that mattress. It is not one that we have sold a lot of. It is the top of the line model and has quite abit of poly foam in it. It is likely to get a deeper body impression over time.

Replacing our S&F Plaza Baroque mattress

My question is we are not sure what to get. They indicated that they would give us a current comparable model or something of our choice at the same price range. My wife has had back surgery and degenerative dics. I am steering her away from the pillowtop. Can you recommend something in this range?

Hi Rob. I'd suggest having it replaced with a model from the new line....the Estate Collection. You're right to stay away from pillowtops, as too soft a mattress will aggrevate her disc problem. A tight top with a medium feel would be best.

Sealy mattresses in Canada

Hi, I live in Canada and would appreciate your advice on 2 Sealy beds I am considering. Both are 2009 models with latex support for pressure points. The Sealy Silver has 805 coils. The Gold Sealy has 805 coils and 1353 three inch pocket coils. Is the combination of innersprings and pocket coils common and will it last? Is the combination of innerspring and pocket coils good?  My wife and I checked to see how level our spines were on both beds and with the Gold they were quite level (within a half of an inch: top of spine compared to the lower spine) and with the silver the top of the spine was an inch to inch and a half higher than the lower part of the spine. Needless to say the Gold is 500USD more than the Sealy Silver. Is the Gold worth the price difference. Thank you for your help.Norm in Canada

Hi Norma. In the US, that coil on coil system is currently available in the S&F line. It holds up ok in the firmermodels, but not so well in the softer ones. Soon, it won't be available at all. Personally, I don't think it's worth the extra money.

Sealy Springfree Beachside mattress

Hi Cheryl. Latex is the coolest of all the foams and is not temperature sensitive. It doesn't change feel because of body heat or electric blankets and mattress pads. This particular model has a nice medium feel, not too hard not too soft. It's a good compromise mattress for couples.

Stearns & Foster Lynwood Downs mattress

Hi Ron. I don't have the specs or conversions for that line. The information I could find online says it has latex and memory foam in it. You'll want to get the specs from the retailer and find out how much of each it has in it and how close to the surface the memory foam is. This will help you make a better decision.

Hi Paul. You are on the right path. The coils in the Sealy's are definately stronger. It is a double tempered innerspring unit. However, I wouldn't recommend the pillowtop. The tight tops keeps their shape much better in  the long run. You can always add a topper later if you need it.

Finally purchasing a new mattress

Hi Pat. I wouldn't recommend either of those. You more than likely won't be satisfied with either in the long run. If you like the idea of an all foam mattress, latex is the best.The best value in latex is Sealy, not so much because it's better, but because you can easily shop it, which keeps everyone honest and the prices lower. The starting model in the Sealy SpringFree line is all you need. It's comfortable without being too soft.
If you want a more traditional, innerspring mattress, look at the Sealy Posturepedic Reserve models.
