Aunt's mattress is to high now with new bed room set

My 84 year old aunt's mattress  is to high now with new bed room set .New set can be made for a queen or  regular .Can the rails  be put on queen setting  so we can drop regular size box spring to floor with mattress on top so it will not be so high. She has burbar rug underneath .Will this hurt boxsping and mattress? Any other sugestions?Box spring is resting on inside of wood rails on small  edge Thank you  Jeannot

Hi Jeannot. It won't hurt the mattress to do that. The whole point of a frame system is to hold the mattress at a conveient height. Also available is: low profile boxsprings and low profile rail sets. Each would reduce the height by about 4".
