Hi,
My wife and I recently purchased a platform bed which will be delivered in late December. When we spoke with the bed manufacturer, they recommended a mattress between 8-10 inches in depth so as not to interfere with the aesthetics of the bed (anything thicker than 10 inches would start to block the headboard). We have talked to salespeople at several mattress stores and, for the most part, they have not been very helpful. Everyone has suggested just going with a thicker mattress since comfort is more important than aesthetics. However, since we spent a significant amount on the bed and really like its appearance, that's not an option we're willing to consider. As far as background, we're looking for a traditional queen-size mattress (we don't like foam) in firm or cushion firm and we're looking to spend around $1,500, give or take a little. The few options we've found in the 10 inch range appear to be very basic models and we're worried we're going to be giving up some comfort or features. Do we have any options that would meet all of our requirements? Thanks in advance.
Ben
Hi Ben, You can find a nice choice in comfort among the low end of the Sealy Posturepedic line. You may have to stretch it an inch, but for the most part, they fall in the thickness you want. The down side is that they are lower end beds and tend not to last as long as something mid range, the upside is that it won't cost much...allowing you to spend that $1500 over 2 purchases...which isn't a bad deal.
