Here is the run-up information, then the question. Sorry for the extensive data...
We have a split set of King box springs. I do not know the manufacturer (Tempur-Pedic?), but suspect they are pretty inexpensive as we purchased the set for $550.00, 16 months ago.
We have been thru 5 mattresses in the last 6 months trying to find the right mattress for us (4 different "Denver" and our current "Sealy"). We did sleep on each mattress for a minimum of 20 nights before making a decision.
My wife is a stomach sleeper and I like sleeping on my side. We have done the pressure point test at Intell-bed and it confirmed our pressure points in the lower back.
During our shopping, we have been told we need a firmer mattress given our sleeping habits, and the "feel" in the store normally supports that. We have also been told that the box springs are:
1) Just a platform to raise the mattress up higher
2) Not that important to the feel of a mattress
3) The floor is the same as a slat bed a piece of plywood
Question: Is our current in-ability to find a comfortable mattress possibly due to our low quality box springs? Or, are we getting bad information about the type of mattress we need?
Hi Brent, Shopping for a mattress is difficult, at best. Trying them in the showroom, then putting that mattress on a different foundation makes it that much more difficult. The mattress isn't going to feel the same on a different boxspring. The first statement is basically correct. 2 & 3 are not correct.
After 5 mattresses, you should have a pretty good idea of how you want it to feel. Buy the set. Get rid of that cheap box.
