Thanks for using your time for such a wonderful service to others. I need your quick opinion if you have time.
I am confined to a wheelchair due to a spinal injury. I have developed severe degenerative joints in both the L4 and L5 region. I may have slight disc issues, but they are not prevalent as far as I know. That may change as I sit all day.
Historically, I have not done well on firm beds. Last year I noticed my bed had basically developed into a hammock. I shopped around for all sorts of beds. Every bed I tried in a store was extremely painful on my low back.. I finally had to decide on a bed and bought the Serta Perfect Sleeper Torrance Eurotop from Sears. I did not want a pillow top or a Eurotop, but this one seemed to cause the least pain.
When I got the bed, I was surprised by how much relief on got from it. Sleeping on it overnight was great, although I had no idea this would be the case when trying it at Sears. About two months later, my low back started hurting quite a bit again. I finally found that the foam had compressed. So, now I am back at square one.
I have been looking at your blog and Sealy beds. I tried to find this Cedar Rose bed. I asked a person a the bed store what bed was they G grade bed. They referred me to a bed called the Decorous. I tried the plush version. It has 640 Posturetech 782 (Queen Coil Count). The quilt has 1 ½" x ½" SuperSoft Convoluted SealyFoam and ½" SealyFoam. Comfort layers are 1" SuperSoft SealyFoam, ½" SealyFoam, 2" x 1" Pressure Point Materials, and ½" Memory Foam Versare Insulator.
Here are my questions:
Is this the same be as the Cedar Rose?
I found this bed to be firmer than my Serta and firmer than I would like. Is there a softer bed you would recommend, either Sealy or S&F?
Is the Sealy Beachside Latex something to consider given that I may have slight disc issues?
Sears offer a Sealy Pearl LE Plush II. Do you know if this is the Cedar Rose? I can return a mattress from Sears fro cash refund.
I am back in the situation of trying beds and everyone I try hurts. I am afraid of spending $1,000 or $2,000 or more again and ending up with a bed that is worse than I have. I am trying to mitigate body impression issues. Any help would be great. Thanks for your time. John
The Pearl from Sears is an "I" grade, 2 grades higher...same coils but more padding. The specs you quoted me are the same as the Cedar Rose plush. Any mattress you buy will get something of a body impression. Serta's quality of padding isn't as high as Sealy's and the coil system in the Sealy is stronger. You'll still have to rotate the mattress every month to keep the impressions to a minimum. I certainly wouldn't recommend a softer mattress, even though you think you would like it to be so. I'm sure you'll find that you will sleep well on the Cedar Rose plush in a very short time. With your discs, I'd be leery of any foam mattress...including latex. I have no way of predicting how Sears will handle this. Legally, they are under no obligation to take back what you have and refund your money. Their only obligation is to service what they sell.
An Important Note:
Any kind of moisture, be it from spills, accidents or perspiration causes a mattress to wear prematurely.
