Hi Pete,
I've been reading extensively on your blog. I'm looking for a recommendation
for a queen mattress. My wife and I are back/side sleepers. (We have a NovaFoam
(yes, I know...) that is a nightmare. Only good thing is I can still take it back to
Costco!) She is 5'3", 150lbs. I'm 6'2", 225lbs. We both sleep well on the Hilton
Serenity bed, but in reading your blog, I understand that purchase would be an
error based on price and longevity. SO, can you make a recommendation on a long
lasting mattress and Latex topper combination (I'm assuming here...) that will
approach the feel of a Hilton Serenity bed? I like the idea of the double sided
mattress, but right now, I need to get the "feel" of the Serenity right, or my wife will
shoot me.
If you recommend a mattress and latex topper, I'd appreciate a recommendation
on the type and thickness of latex. Also, since the Hilton family has NOT claimed
me as a long-lost heir, I need to avoid the $2000+ mattress category. :-)
Thanks in advance,
Rob
Hi Rob,
An excellent choice that provides good support, comfort and longevity...in your
price range, is the Stearns & Foster Heidi luxury firm with a 2" soft Talalay latex
topper. That combo can't be beat and has stood the test of time. You're at $1259
for the queen set and $350 for the topper. Here are the links.

Do you have any idea which Sealy Posturepedic mattress would
be the closest match to the Encore 720 Plush model? I know it
is older, maybe 2005 and was at the Lowes Hotel in Annapolis.
Thanks, Nancy

Good Morning,
I was just reading through your website after a google search for the Sealy sensaTIonal mattress at the Treasure Island in Las Vegas. I saw that Pete recommended the Sealy Posturepedic Grass Leaf Plush. I am 6'3" 235 and my wife is 5'3" 135. Every mattress we have purchased works fine for the first few months then either sagging or "tacoing" in the middle ruins it. we have purchase new box springs with each mattress and are on our 4th set in 8 years. We've tried the memory foam but it was too firm for her and even tried the Select Comfort mattress but I hated it. However after 2 stays at the Treasure Island I can't remember a more comfortable bed then the sensaTIonal. I'm just wondering if the Grass Leaf is still the recommendation.
Thanks For Your Time, John

Do you carry hotel mattresses like the Stearns & Foster Boulevard
Plush or the Sealy Posturepedic Monogram 800 plush, etc.?
Hi Sandra,
Stearns & Foster doesn't make a mattress like the Boulevard
model anymore. Nothing in their line is even similar.
You'll have more success in replicating the Monogram model.
The "E" level plush model will be close.
The model names vary from store to store. We have it as
Grass Leaf, shown here.

My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Va on the way back from New England last week.
We have never slept as well as we did elsewhere. What kind of mattresses do they use and how can we purchase one?
Michael
Hi Michael,
I'm gonna get to the answer in a minute...or, you can skip right to the next paragraph.
Hotels can use any brand, change brands...and, as each line changes specs from time to time, have somewhat different beds of the same brand over the years. Only when the hotel is new, will the same mattress be in every room.
In doing a google search about what mattress is used at Holiday Inns...Sealy, Serta, Simmons and Tempurpedic All came up as being used.
Hotels sell mattress too. Whatever happens to be the featured mattress, is what will be delivered...even though the mattress you slept on may not be that mattress. And, even if it is the same, a new one will feel differently from one that has been broken in. (a problem you face trying broken in floor sample at retail stores too)
The best part is, you'll pay 2 to 3 times more for it than at retail....and for a mattress that is likely to be different from the one you wanted to begin with.
And you thought this would be as easy.
The only way to know what mattress you slept on, is to call the hotel, and ask them to ask housekeeping to look at the label on the mattress in the room you had, and get back to you with the information. If the mattress is less than a year or so old, you stand a half decent chance of finding a match at retail.
And while you may not be able to find the same exact mattress, you are likely to find something close.
Thanks, Pete

Do you know of a similar mattress to the Simmons W hotel mattress that is available in stores? We love it but have concerns about ordering online and sight unseen.
Thanks for your help! Skg
Hi SKG,
The W mattress is so named, to have you believe you are buying the same mattress used at the Westin Hotel, known as the Heavenly bed. What makes the actual hotel mattress so heavenly, is the topper use on the mattress...which does not come with the W mattress sold in stores.
It's a marketing gimick used to get a higher price.
The W mattress is a Classic Beautyrest. There are 3 levels in the Classic Series...all the same, but with more padding each level up.
Ordering on line is guesswork, only if you don't know what's inside the mattress.
We have included the specifications for all of our mattresses. All you need to do is match them with the specs of what you saw.
Ask your salesperson to show them to you. All of the manufacturers provide spec sheets for every mattress that is floored.
Here is a link to the regular Beautyrest line. The Adamsville, Gordonston and Lincolnton are the levels in the Classic Series. As you will see, you have a choice of comfort at each level.
Your best choice is the plush/firm...using a heavier gauge wire for better support and longevity than the plush models, but using the same comfortable padding on top.
