First I'd like to thank you for creating a site with such useful information, insightful content, and wide product offering.
About 5 years ago my wife and I purchased a naturally Bobs cotton plush king. It was ok for a couple months and then we began waking up with back pain. Sleep was terrible and when we did wake up (after tossing and turning all night) it would take 15 minutes to physically get out of the bed. Our work days were filled with yawns and sore muscles for 4+ years. Fast forward to today and I now have placed sheets of plywood on top of the box spring, and flipped the one sided mattress so we're sleeping on the opposite side.
After reading through your site it's clear to me now that we should have purchased a firm mattress. My wife got in a car accident and has a few herniated discs - her spine is completely out of alignment when she sleeps and I would like to get something that will work for the both of us. We went down to the local mattress retailer and saw a few models including the Beautyrest Black firm, and the Steams and Foster estate ultra firm. We both decided we love the S&F ultra firm mattress and plan to try out other extra firm or ultra firm models.
My wife is 5'3 135lbs and I am 6'1 160lb and we both are side sleepers but on the right bed would likely be back sleepers.
Do you recommend the Stearns and Foster estate ultra firm, Beautyrest Black , or latex ultra firm, or another type entirely? I would probably need to get a box spring as well since mine appears to be bent in some places. Was planning to purchase a latex topper (medium?) and two latex pillows.
Please let me know your thoughts and best recommendations for our situation. We are open to anything and will likely make our decision this week. Given the high cost of the mattresses we need it to last a very long time.
Thanks in advance
The mattress you have has too great a depth of softness for anyone, but especially for someone with damaged discs.
The Natura Greenspring models are upholstered with natural Talalay latex and the coils are double tempered. These specs insure longevity, as well as comfort.
There are 5 choices of comfort. We chose the ultra plush...which is in no way, too soft. Keep in mind that latex is far more resilient than memory foam. Here is a link to those mattresses: https://themattressexpert.com/natura-greenspring-pocketed-coil-mattresses/
