Simmons Beautyrest Legend Mattress

You and she will fare better on the firmer mattress and topper combo, than you will on a soft pillowtop that will lose its shape much too quickly.

Your wife's back is way too sensitive to tolerate that kind of change in the mattress.

The store where you saw the Legend is likely to have a Simmons Beautyrest model called, "Lucetta". They show it in a plush/firm without a pillowtop.

That mattress with a 2" soft latex topper will give you all the comfort you want without sacrificing the support you need.
