Hi Michele,
There are 3 types of foam. Polyurethane foam is the most common and you'd be hard pressed to find a mattress without it. The oldest and most durable is Latex foam. Some of the better mattresses have this.
The worst and most complained about is Memory foam...to be avoided if possible, but not too bad in very small amounts.
In the S&F line, the "J" grade, our Duval St., is available in an ultra firm. It uses 1/2" of memory foam and has no latex.
Their best spec is at the "P" grade, our Lucas Park. It has.79" of latex and NO memory foam....also available in an ultra firm.
The Lucas Park is your best choice.

Ya know, it's these real short questions that end up the longest answers.
As in anything in life, (here we go), the answers we seek are rarely as black and white as that.
Latex is the oldest of the foams...and the most durable. That being said, there are lots of places palming off mattresses that they claim is latex that actually have very little latex.
There are mattresses with latex in them that salesmen talk about as being the reason to buy that mattress. In fact, many of them have so little latex in them that it should be criminal to mention it.
Besides the scammy, sleezy side of the business, there is the varying differences in quality among latex. Some of it comes from China...and I wouldn't give a horses petute for anything made there.
And if that weren't enough....and let's say you bought a high quality, all latex mattress. It could very well end up not being right for you.
This is precisely why my son doesn't ask me questions.

Margo - Boxspring

I have a mattress/boxspring set a couple of years old. I am looking to lower the overall profile of the bedding. The set together is extremely high. I want to purchase a low profile box spring and was told to purchase matching box spring to the mattress. Having tough time locating "Heritage, Chesapeake" manufacturer so that I can purchase the low profile box spring. Is Heritage a re branded mattress? Can someone point me to a store that I can purchase the low profile box spring at?

Stephanie - First big beds for 2 boys

We have two boys ages three and five and we have just started the search for their first big boy beds. We found a Serta perfect sleeper firm plush on close out for $600 for 2 twin sets. I have concerns about the long term durability even though there is a ten year warranty. I have read through some of the posts here and it looks like your top pick is the Sealy Reserve cushion firm, but for $1,000 plus for two twin sets it's nearly double the price. Is there really that big a difference? Thanks for sharing your expertise.

There are a couple of things to consider. First, they're boys....and boys are rougher on stuff than girls...usually.
And while I don't much care for the over-all quality of the Serta Perfect Sleeper, their low end models use a much heavier gauge wire than their more expensive models.
And while the Sealy Posturepedic Reserve is a better quality mattress, you seem to have gotten a very good price on those Sertas.

Ramona - S&F Kimberley Plush

I just purchased a S&F Kimberly Plush and have I have only slept in it 3days but it is gving my husband and I shoulder and back pains. I was wondering is the Kimberly Plush a firm mattress? Also does it retain heat my husband says it is also making him sweat. Thanks for your help

Hi Ramona,
None of the "plush" S&F models is what I'd consider soft. They all have more of a medium feel. It does take a couple of weeks for a new mattress to loosen up...and can take that long to adjust to your new alignment. If you need a softer feel, consider a soft latex topper.
The Kimberley is not considered a "warm" mattress. However, since the fabric flame guard law was enacted, some people have reported feeling warm on mattresses that don't normally sleep warm. Besides adding comfort, the latex topper will also insulate you and your husband from the flame guard cover.
