Stearns & Foster Fiona Plush mattress

I was in a mattress sales room today, and they had a Stearns and Foster Fiona Plush set up with an adjustable frame.   I found this to be extremely comfortable, but was concerned about this expensive coil spring mattress having an adjustable frame.   Can this mattress be used with the adjustable frame with doing harm to the coils?

Hi David. That mattress has a border rod between the coils and the foam edge. It's the border rod that makes it incompatible with an adjustable base.

SpringAir Ambience mattress

Hi, I've been reading the blog and find it very conforting that someone can speak the truth. My wife and I bought a mattress from Macy's 4 years ago. The first one (I don't remember the model) had to be exchanged as it bowed on both sides leaving a hump in the model. Well, the second one is now doing the same.Its a spring air Ambience confort select. We've had it for 2 years and is the worst to sleep on. I'm 5"10 250 and my wife is 5"3 140. We both sleep on our side or back. If we're able to get a refund then I'm coming to you; however, we might be forced to pick another one from them. WHat is a good quaility or brand that would be the best fit? We loved our bed at the beginning but thats about it. Any suggestions? Thanks and I appreciate all of you help.

Hi Ronnie. While could easy have had made a better choice than Spring Air, what's happened to your two mattresses isn't uncommon. I'm guessing you have a king, as what you describe is most common in that size. I'm guessing too, that what you have is plush, and maybe even a pillowtop. Consider that as an upholstered item, a mattress is going to compress under you. There 110 pounds difference between you. You must 1/4 turn rotate a king mattress every month for the 1st year to have any hope of it wearing evenly. And stay away from pillowtops and overly soft mattresses.
Macy's off sale prices are incredibly high. But you might try their S&F Estate models in a luxury firm. A man your size can't afford a soft bed. Use a topper for softening, which can easily and cheaply be replaced when worn.

Sealy Gracehill Harbor mattress

Hi Shane. The Gracehill is a memory foam mattress. So, if you're looking for the contouring support of foam and the relief of pressure points that come with it, latex is the better of the two types. Hi Cem. We have that model as the Powells Point and it is available in 6 styles: firm, cushion firm, plush, ultra plush, and 2 pillowtops. If those are the only three choices, then firm. You can always add a topper if you need it.

Hello Harish. The cushion firm in the Springfree line is a eurotop mattress. It has 5" of poly foam in the surface. The firm has no extra top to it and is the firmer of the two.

Narrowed it down to two mattresses

I am a back and side sleeper......mostly a side sleeper, and I am planning on buying a new mattress. I have narrowed it down to 2 choices.....Sealy posturepedic Loring Park Firm or the Powells Point Cushion firm. I have read the reviews that some people feel like they are sleeping on cement with the Loring Park Firm. Do you think that mattress will be too firm for me? I know the fix for that would be to add a 2 inch laytex topper, but why spend the extra money if you feel the cushion firm is right for me. I can't stand it when mattresses sagg. With my current mattress I am stuck in a 2 inch hole when turning from side to side. I can never get a good nights sleep. What do you think???.....Loring Park or Powells Point? Or is there another mattress out there that you think is better for me?

Donna. Those models are the same, just different names. Mattresses tend to sag due to softer padding. I can't tell you if the firm will be too firm for you. Only you can determine that. I can tell you that the cushion firm will be a bit softer on your hip if you sleep on your side.

Hi Teresa. "Organic" is one of those buzz words designed to create the impression that it is healthier…greener…that somehow, you and the whole world will benefit from you purchasing that one over another. It creates the impression that it's chemical free. If you look closer, at how latex is transformed from a tree sap to a foam, you'll see that nothing could be further from the truth. "Buzz" words are used to get you to buy. Everyone uses them because consumers are impressed by them. Take "Free Range", for instance. Quite often, all the farmer has to do, to be able to use that term, is leave the gate to the pen open for 5 minutes each day. The chickens stay together and don't actually leave the pen, but the farmer has followed the federal guide lines required to use "Free Range" as a buzz word selling tool. And what gave you the impression that a steel boxspring was a bad idea? Could you have heard it from....a salesman?
If you have enough disposeable income to consider a Kluft, you really don't need my help. You can clearly afford to make your own mistakes. This blog is here to help the average person address their problems, navigate through the maze and look for value. There are many who believe that more is better…that more expensive is better…that shopping for the most expensive items provides them with a degree of status. And while we begrudge no one for going after and getting what they want.…when that mind set in applied to a mattress purchase, the result is almost always disappointing and frequently painful. There are many more, who can ill- afford to make expensive mistakes. If you are one, the very best value in latex is the Sealy SpringFree Beachside.

My wife and i are in desperate need of a new mattress. We are currently sleeping on a full sized springed sealy posturpedic. I'm a side sleeper that is easily awoken. She has a herniated disc and sleeps mainly on her stomach/back. We would like to spend less than 1000(i know this will be difficult). Ive searched and searched and decided I would like a latex mattress. She would prefers something springed that is medium to soft. Would you recommend buying a sealy springed mattress and applying a latex mattress pad on top?? thanks ahead.

Hi Ben. Back sleepers with herniated discs usually fare better on an interlocked innerspring…like the Posturepedic. I have disc problems too, but sleep fine on a latex mattress. That wouldn't necessarily be the case for yor wife. The disadvantage of the innerspring, is that motion is more easily transferred from side to side. A latex topper makes a firmer mattress more comfortable an longer lasting, but does little to reduce the motion transfer. Try the Sealy SpringFree Beachside latex mattress before deciding. The severity of her herniation and her weight and body shape will be factors in whether or not it'll work for her. But, it's worth a look-see. We all have bad backs here, and it's the one that works for us.

That's right Ralph, you can. As you go up the S&F line, you get more padding. A luxury firm is cushier at the Springbook level than at the Kimberley level. And if you get one that's too soft, you're pretty well stuck.
