Hi. We've gone through a couple of Shifman Belize (firm and ultraplush) mattresses in short order. THe body impressions approach 1 1/2" rapidly (in under a year). My wife complains of serious pressure points in her hips and shoulders. When she side sleeps, her arm on the mattress frequently goes numb. Her neck is a mess because the mattress slopes off towards me. (Neither of us is heavy, but she is petite.) I feel it in my hip, but only when the mattress needs to be rotated at about 4-5 weeks. (After this much time, I shouldn't have to flip this mattress so often--and that's not an easy task; it's heavy.) At this point, we've had it with the Shifman and are considering the Klufts because of the store credit we will receive from the Shifman at Bloomies. Bloomies offers a new Kluft latex line (only had it a few months==st claire; rafael; bernini) and we're suspicious of something new. We know you like latex, but this is a new product. Plus it doesn't really feel luxurious.!
Then we are looking at the Noble splendor innerspring (rated firm) from kluft. Do you think that mattress will also give a severe body impression in short order (it has taalay latex in it, but no memory foam; I think the shifman has some memory foam in it.) Or we could chuck the store credit from Bloomies and buy a Dux ? Or if all these mattresses are overpriced do we just get the best sealy and know we'll have to replace it in short order? It might be hard going from a handmade shifman back into a commerical line. Could you specifically tell us what you know about the kluft latex and kluft noble splendor in terms of body impressions given my wife's aches and pains and that it can only be rotated not flipped? What about the dux? Thanks!
Hi Steve. The measure of value is not in the expense, but in the benefit. Those brands you mentioned are there to separate people from their money and do it with enough style, so you don't know you've been had. Even after you've experienced, first hand, the lack of performance and benefit...you're still sold on the idea that an outrageously expensive mattress must be worth it. Considering a mattress as a luxury item will only continue to result in pain for you and your wife. A mattress is a functional, utilitarian product. The purpose, of which, is to provide support for your skelital and muscular systems with enough comfort to allow you to sleep deeply. BTW, all mattresses are hand made.
