I've been searching for a mattress for some time now, and am so confused. I have degenerative disc syndrome and while it is now somewhat under control, I want it to stay that way. (I still have neck, middle back, and lower back aches) Never again do I want to awaken with pain so excruiating that I cannot raise up or move my head in either direction. I looked at the Tempurpedics, but they are just too expensive. I have also tried out the Tru-form (last year's model because of price), but they don't seem to be firm enough. I tried the firm Sealy Clairbrook at another store, and while it offered the support I needed, it still did not make my back feel better. (... my back tingles after lying on some of the mattresses - is that good or bad?) I have looked at an ad from a department store that sells Sealy out of town, and they have advertised the West Palm Beach mattress at $899.00. I called the store and they can't tell me if the mattress is preferred or reserve. It sounds like something I could like with the several layers of memory foam, but am afraid to order without some guidance. I am a small person, about 5'2" and weigh about 120 pounds. While this mattress will be put in the spare bedroom, I will sleep in it often since my hubby snores loudly. Here is the description of the mattress: "The West Palm Beach is the bed for those who like a firmer feeling mattress with an additional layer of Visco Memory Foam for added comfort. Special pressure point materials provide relief and comfort while reducing tossing and turning for a more restful night’s sleep. The matching foundation acts as a shock absorber to ensure long-lasting support and comfort. 10 Year non-prorated warranty for the set. Approximate depth of mattress is 14.5 inches." Do you think this mattress would work for me? If not, then which one specifically. Thank you so much for your time.Kathy
Hi Kathy. I don't know how you consider making any purchase without trying it first....especially given your extreme sensitivity. The Sealy Posturepedics are well made, in general. But, there is a wide variety of comfort choices. It's difficult enough to tell if a bed will work for you just by trying it...never mind doing it this way.
The coil system of the Posturepedic provides good support, but it's the surface feel that will make the difference. You can alter the feel of the mattress with any of the toppers that are available. At your size, it'll be the surface feel that will be more important.
