Hi, Peter. I'm in the market for a new queen-size mattress and have yet to find one that adequately addresses my multiple health concerns. I'm a 5'2" female, and I weigh 120 lbs. I have fibromyalgia, three compressed discs in my lower spine, limited range of motion in my neck from an old auto accident, and I'm sensitive to chemical odors. I've purchased a variety of mattresses--but they've all failed to provide me with the comfort and suppport I need. I've read all of your posts and would appreciate any suggestions you may have to address my concerns. Many, many, thanks!
Hi Carol. Mattresses that are soft enough for your fibro have too much of a depth of softness for your spine. Your spine will need the rigid support of an interlocked innerspring, so you have to start there. The Stearns & Foster Caravelle is a good place to start, but if money is an issue the Sealy Posturepedic Reserve is more reasonably priced. Add to that a topper. Latex toppers are the most durable, but if your fibro is more serious, a feather topper may be in order. Latex toppers require no maintenance. The feather toppers need to be fluffed up regularly.
