I have been sleeping on our Tempurpedic set for 3 months and began noticing a very sore, inflamed rash on side of head and ear after about a month of use. I made no connection to the mattress and new Temp. pillows up to now. I am now suffering from a widespread rash on sides of hips, back, arms and scattered areas. It has been pointed out by my MD that there have been complaints about these new memory foam mattresses and do we have one? Unfortunately we do and we purchased it because of respiratory allergies of my husbands and he LOVES the set. My question is has anyone had an allergy skin test and what is the product you were tested for? I have never had any type of allergy and I am so skeptical of all of this but I am also unable to be releived of this nasty rash.

I HAVE HAD A DREADFUL ALLERIGC REACTION TO MY 2 MONTH OLD MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS, ESPECIALLY BAD ON MY HIP AND TOP OF BOTTOM AND UN MY BACK, HAVE BEEN TO DOCTORS 6 TIMES IN 3 WEEKS AND HAVE HAD ANTIBIOTICS, ANTIHISTAMINES, CORTISONE,AND STEROIDS, AND LUCKILY THE SUPPLIER HAS AGREED TO CHANGE THE MATTRESS AFTER INTERVENTION BY THE MANUFACTURER. i have not had any other allergic reactions like this, but it statred with a really hot and burning feeling in my skin on my hip on the side on which i lie. after 3 weeks i am about to go back to work, but am still not properly better and have had to sleep on a sofabed in the lounge, and am missing lots of sleep as a result. I wish someone had warned me about the effects of memory foam before i bought it.

We JUST had our furniture store remove our temperpedic bed from our home. After 10 days... the horrible smell is still not gone. We've kept our windows open with a ceiling fan running. Everything and anything that touches the mattress smells horrific. Our pillows, bedding, comforter etc. We can "taste" the chemicals on our lips. Horrible. The manufacturer said while rare, this does happen when the mattress is wrapped for shipping too soon. Wonder how toxic this is. Anyone have this problem?

Hi Donna, That sort of thing is rare at such a severe degree. To a lesser degree, it's not that uncommon. The flame retardant chemicals in the polyfoam can be extremely toxic, if not properly cured. Also, I've had people complain about the glue that's used to bond Tempurpedic's memory foam to the poly foam. I would suggest putting it in the garage, (if you have one), until it can be replaced.

Just spent my first night in my Tempurpedic bed and woke up feeling sick with a sore throat for one. I am allegic to neoprene (wetsuits) and did not think about this when purchasing the bed. I did not wake up with a bad rash as I get with a wetsuit, but wonder if the fumes from the new bed and pillow are affecting me or if this is all just a coincidence. Are the same chemicals in neoprene used in the foam of this bed?

Hi David, I couldn't say if the chemicals are the same. No one has written to me before about a problem such as yours. The only allergic reaction I've heard about involved the glue they use to bond the memory foam to the poly foam.
